Powerboat Level 2

Learn how to drive a powerboat safely. This two-day entry-level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat. The course covers launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard recovery, slow speed close-quarters manoeuvring, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision regulations.

The powerboat level 2 certificate allows holders to apply for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC), an especially useful certificate if you plan to go boating abroad. To check your eligibility for an ICC and further information on the certificate's validity please click here.

The start powerboating handbook is included in the course price as is the certificate however this is not guaranteed unless the course is successfully completed. Boat & buoyancy aid hire is also included.

Course prices are for two people minimum. If you are keen to do this course but are a single booking and happy to be teamed up with someone else then register via our online poll with your details and we will try and match people together. The poll is here

Duration: two-days
Time: 09:30 to 16:30 with a break for lunch
Pre-course requirements: No prior experience is required, minimum age of 12.
Price: £300 non-members, £275 members, (Minimum of two to run the course required).

Safety Boat

Improve your powerboating skill and learn a range of safety and rescue techniques. This course provides the skills required when acting as a safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers, or for racing or training activities.

It is a pre-requisite that you have held a RYA Powerboat PB2 certificate for at least one year to take this course.

The course covers boat handling, a variety of dinghy rescue techniques, windsurfer rescue, towing, the suitability of different craft, communication, rescuing other water users and elements of race management and mark laying.

The safety boat handbook is included in the course price as is the certificate however this is not guaranteed unless the course is successfully completed. Boat & buoyancy aid hire is also included.

Pre-course requirements: Powerboat Level 2 certificate, minimum age of 16 A powerboat level 2 certificate must be held before starting this course. A basic knowledge of sailing dinghies is also required. Minimum age of 16.
