Junior Training
RYA Courses
We provide RYA-accredited junior dinghy tuition for children aged 7 and up, for all abilities. Whether your child is a beginner or an experienced sailor, we have courses to suit. Our professional RYA-qualified instructors ensure engaging lessons combining on the water practice, shore-based exercises, and classroom sessions tailored to the group and weather conditions.
Juniors of mixed abilities may be taught together. Occasionally, two children may share a boat - a valuable opportunity to develop teamwork and crewing skills.
Stage 1: Learn to Sail - Perfect for juniors new to sailing! This course introduces basic sailing skills, including rigging, steering, boat handling, and capsize drills, following the RYA Stage 1 syllabus.
Stage 2: Building Confidence - For juniors who've completed Stage 1. Learn ropework, collision avoidance, capsize recovery, speed control, and foundational principles of sailing.
Stage 3: Independent Sailing - Build on previous skills with advanced rigging, triangle courses, maneuvers, and sailing theory. By the end, sailors will confidently helm a dinghy in moderate conditions.
Stage 4: Crewed Dinghies - Learn advanced launching, docking, maneuvers and crewed dinghy sailing, following the RYA Stage 4 syllabus. Sailors will be able to sail around a triangle in more advanced conditions.

Onboard Sessions
The RYA's Onboard program is a fantastic way for local children aged 7+ to experience sailing and windsurfing for the first time. Designed for complete beginners, it provides a safe, fun, and structured environment to enjoy watersports while learning invaluable life skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and building confidence. No previous experience or equipment is needed to get started.
It offers a progressive pathway through the RYA Youth Schemes, with the opportunity for children to develop their skills and potentially participate in club racing with support from our instructors. Parents are welcome to relax in the clubhouse during the sessions, enjoying food, drinks, or simply watching their children out on the water.
To continue after the first session, children will need to join the club as junior member or as part of a family membership.
