Junior Training

We run fun, structured and RYA accredited junior dinghy training for children aged 7 and up, suitable for all ability levels from complete beginners to those ready for more advanced skills. Our experienced RYA qualified instructors make learning safe, enjoyable and confidence building on the water and ashore.

Children of mixed abilities may be taught together, and occasional boat sharing encourages teamwork and communication on the water.

RYA Junior Dinghy Courses

Stage 1 Learn to Sail
Perfect for beginners. Introduces basic skills like rigging, steering, boat handling and capsizing drills.

Stage 2 Building Confidence
Builds on Stage 1 with ropework, collision avoidance, capsize recovery and solid foundation skills.

Stage 3 Independent Sailing
Develops advanced rigging, triangle courses, manoeuvres and sailing theory, helping juniors sail with confidence in moderate conditions.

Stage 4 Crewed Dinghies
Focuses on launching, docking, manoeuvres and teamwork in crewed boats, following the RYA Stage 4 syllabus.

• When: During UK school holidays
• Duration: 5 half day sessions (Mon - Fri)
• Times: 10:00 - 13:00 or 14:00 - 17:00

  Included: Boat, wetsuit & buoyancy aid hire, logbook and certificate on successful completion.

When juniors complete Stage 4, they can continue their sailing journey with advanced RYA courses, help as Assistant Instructors or get involved in sailing events and club activities. Email us to discuss options and progression.

Onboard

Our RYA Onboard programme is a great way for local children aged 7+ to try sailing or windsurfing for the first time in a safe, fun and structured, with no experience or equipment needed.

• Duration: 2 hours
• Times:
  • Tue & Thu evenings 18:00 - 20:00
  • Some Saturdays 10:00 - 12:00
• Price: £10 per session
• Age: 7+

Parents can relax in the clubhouse, enjoy a drink or watch from the shore. After the first session, children can continue sailing as junior members or as part of a family membership.
