Falmouth Working Boats
Dating back to the late 1800's the Falmouth Working Boats were traditionally built in wood with large open cockpits. The biggest change to the fleet came in the 1960's with the production of a 28ft fibreglass hull. Initially used for dredging others were bought solely for racing.During the winter months the working fleet still dredge oysters using traditional methods whilst throughout the summer the racing fleet will be out in force donning colourful topsails and 1000 sq ft of sail...
Whilst not hailing from Fowey the Falmouth Working Boat fleet are regular visitors to Fowey Gallants Sailing Club.
Since 1945 these magnificent boats and their crew have been powering their way up the coast to Fowey and form an integral part of Regatta Week. When the fleet have finished racing, the bar will be a great place to brush up on your Cornish singing when the crews take refreshment.
