Training school update

Hi everyone,
I hope you've enjoyed the start of the sailing season. Despite the weather, we've certainly been making the most of it! Although I'm still waiting for summer to properly arrive.
We've had a busy few months on the water...
We're now midway through our schools programme and, working alongside the Roseland Youth Sailing Trust, we've introduced almost 90 local children from six different schools to sailing on the beautiful Fowey Estuary. It's been fantastic to watch them grow in confidence, develop teamwork skills, and discover a love for being on the water. Alongside learning to sail, the programme gives young people an insight into the opportunities that exist right here on their doorstep. From cruise ships and fishing boats to sail training vessels and the Harbour Commission's working boats, the estuary is full of examples of careers within the marine industry that many young people may not otherwise be aware of. We hope to see many of them continue their sailing journey through our OnBoard programme.
Our OnBoard sessions have also been thriving, with around 25 young sailors joining us each week across three sessions. We've done a lot of high wind hiking practice, with several Oppie bin bag races when it's been a little too windy! It's been great to see several of them progressing onto the race course and gaining valuable experience on the water.
We've also had some exciting visitors recently, including Channel 5, who joined us for filming (so keep your eyes peeled for some familiar faces), and Pudsey, who stopped by as part of his Children in Need fundraising tour around Britain.
Thankfully, the sun finally made an appearance for May Half Term, which made everything even better. We ran a full programme of junior RYA courses alongside powerboat courses, and it was great to see so many sailors and powerboaters getting out on the water. If you're thinking about booking a course this year, make sure to check out all of our available RYA training on the website.
Our adult sailing and powerboat courses have also been keeping us busy. Adults are allowed to learn to sail too, and they seem to have just as much fun as the kids, although sometimes with slightly more tea breaks!
We've also welcomed several families through our Discover Sailing sessions, many of whom have gone on to join other activities at the club. It's a great way to experience sailing for the first time and see what we're all about.
In May, we held our final shorebased course of the season. Don't worry if you missed out, though more shorebased courses will be available once we head into the winter months.
As we build towards the height of the sailing season, our calendar is starting to fill up quickly. Make sure to have a browse through the website and see what's coming up. If you can't find exactly what you're looking for, or the dates don't quite work, get in touch. We'll always do our best to find a way to get you out on the water.
I can't wait to see more of you out on the water, and hopefully that glowing orb in the sky will make a few more appearances so we can finally take our winter wetsuits off!
See you on the water,
Jaz
