RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC)

A VHF Marine Radio, whether handheld or fixed, facilitates communication with coast stations, port/harbour authorities, and other vessels. This mode of communication is a crucial aspect of safety equipment, and it's essential to grasp the correct procedures.

The RYA VHF Marine Radio Course consists of one day of instruction, including 2-3 hours of pre-course reading. Towards the end of the day, there will be an examination overseen by an external moderator. Please note that this is a full day starting at 8:30 am and potentially concluding at 7:00 pm, with only a 30-minute lunch break and a couple of short comfort breaks. It's advisable to bring a packed lunch.

The majority of the day is dedicated to training on VHF radios and acquiring essential information. There will be a couple of coffee breaks and a lunch break, taking us to approximately 4:30 pm - 5:00 pm. After a separate moderator and assessor will give you a 25-question multiple-choice exam, followed by a practical emergency procedure exercise on the VHF radio. The day is expected to conclude between approximately 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Cancellation policy: in the event your course is cancelled by FGSC due to adverse weather or any other reason you will be entitled to reschedule your course to an alternative date or receive a full refund. Should you cancel any booking with a minimum of 14 days notice you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your booking with less than 14 days notice refunds will be at discretion of FGSC dependent on the space(s) being rebooked by another student(s). Such refund will not be unreasonably withheld.

Non-members of FGSC will be deemed temporary members of the club for the duration of their course only and will comply with all club rules a copy of which is available on the club website. Temporary members are not entitled to any benefits enjoyed by full members of the club.
